We recently tried to adjust the High band (the one on the outside of the tranny case) on my friend's Dart (318/904) and couldn't get the band to torque down. It did once, but the socket got stuck on the aduster so we had to turn the ratchet backwards (maybe 1/8th turn or so) to get the socket off. Then we tried to torque the adjuster again, and it wouldn't get tight. It just turned and turned and turned... we figured that we broke the band, but weren't too sad because before we did this we were pretty sure we had to change the tranny anyways so no big deal. Well, we tried to push the car back out of the garage and it wouldn't budge! It felt like it was in park no matter if the gearshifter was in P,R, or N... you know, it rolls back easily an inch or two but then hits something, at first we thought we hadn't taken the blocks from behind the tires but we checked, and the thing was clear to roll. We know the shifter works because we turned the engine on and put it in Drive, and it goes forward, but put the thing in R and it won't move anywhere under power, feels like it's in Park. Same for Neutral. It drives and pushes forward easily but won't go backwards! We are currentlyswapping in a new tranny but are sort of curious what might have happened; anybody out there have any clues? Want a tranny to rebuild?
