Make sure car is not running 1st..... Get small drain pan as you will get a small amount of leakage when you remove the adapter. Next get an adjustable wrench and loosen the speedo cable where it goes into the tranny tailshaft housing.(You can remove the cable if you want but not absolutely necessary.) Next get a 1/2" wrench and remove the bolt & holddowm clamp that holds in the speedometer adapter in the tranny tailshaft housing. Next take a pair of channelocks to the large nut that you loosened in the beginning & gently pull & wiggle the assembly out of the trans. The gear will now be visible and can be removed from the speedometer adapter in your hand. To reinstall just reverse procedure but be careful to line up the numbers on the adapter with the index mark on the tailshaft housing. Check fluid level when finished, you usually do not loose that much fluid to do this(one tablespoon maybe) but it won't hurt. |
