Cool

Edelbrock said stock head bolts well work with washers...NOT!!!! you can't get a socket on the center head bolts to touq them.... get there bolt kit or arps bolt kit..NEXT get you hammer out if you using hooker 1 7/8 headers... on the pass side header 3 tubes need some dents to clear the plugs and boots.....good news is that the drivers side fits ok.............

Question

Lee, you said you hammered your hooker 1 7/8 headers. Are those the comp's or super comp's you have? I have the comp's and I'm hoping that the edelbrock heads will fit with my headers. Also, it sounds like you have them on your motor, have you run them yet? Keep us updated, i know all us big block guys want to know how they perform. Thanks.

Clayton

i used hooker 1 7/8 comps on indy heads and had to bend #4 cylinder a little for wire room .real pain getting plugs in and out.i cut a socket so it had an open side to it so i could get it on plugs. driverside is no problem.

Cool heads and headers

To...68charger440hp the headers are hooker comps Not super comps...... i will post some ets as soon as i get back to the track. Most likely that will be in 2 weeks..... The car is a 70 roadrunner with a pump gas, mild hyd cam(292 504 isky) 496ci bottom end, power brakes, power steering, NO convertor and 355 gears... so far it has run the best of 7.60@90 in the 1/8 mile..on 325/ 50/ 15 BFGs....i hope i would get 3 tenths with the edelbrocks since i was using 906s with NO port work and stock valves, push rods and rockers now...if i get more than that it would be a great day!!! but i'm setting my sights low so i wont be dissapointed..

Lee P;

Gald you said it was a Big Block. I didn't know what you had there. I have a small block with the Edel. heads. I also was thinkin about headers for it from hooker. There Super comps for S/B's are 1 7/8. So I had gotten confused there a second.
Good luck!

Unhappy

Lee, I have a set of the BB Edelbrocks, also. I set my Crane gold 1.6:1 roller rockers on, and it appears that the roller is not contacting even close to the center of the valve tip, and I'm not talking about a side to side issue that shimming can fix. It's as if the rocker shaft needs to come a little closer toward the valves. Are you seeing the same thing with yours? What kind of rockers are you using?

Default Hey DusterDave...

I can tell you what helped when I encountered a similar problem w/ my Stage VIs: get some of the tapered shims that fit under the rocker shafts (Mancini sells 'em, as do other Mopar shops) and a set of lash caps ( Crane are .060", Comp's are .080") for the valves. Raising the shaft .060" and adding lash caps brings the two converging lines of the valves and the rocker shafts a tad bit closer together and helps this problem. The other issue here is that Crane's rockers are shorter from the center of the pivot to the center of the roller tip than other brands of roller rockers I have. The Probe Industries CNC billet alum. roller rockers I have are noticeably longer from the centerline of the shaft to the roller tip than the Cranes.

Cool rockers

dusterdave one other thing..... the rockers will not be centered at 0 lift..... they should be a little to one side at 0 lift.... they should be centered at a half lift... and over centered at full lift .......

Lee, I checked a few of the heads I had at my shop, and i could get a 12 point socket onto the bolt heads, with no problem. I did not actually bolt them to a block though. Edelbrocks bolt kit is not available yet, and ARP is making their bolts for them. I could not find out if the edelbrock bolts will be small 12 point heads or not. What did you end up doing?
