I am pulling my first motor, a 383 hooked up to a 4spd. tranny. I'm at a stopping point. The reference book I have is for pulling a motor hooked to a automatic tranny. So now i'm stumped. As far as I can tell I think all I have left to do is motor mounts and bellhousing bolts.
Is there any clutch connections that need to be disconnected? I'm disconnecting the motor from the bellhousing and just pulling the block? Thanks! |

Your correct. Just make sure any clutch linkage that could get in the way or get damaged is removed. When that motor is swinging on the cherry picker is a bad time to find out you forgot something. Best of luck to you.

I have always removed the clutch and bellhousing on 4-speed cars before pulling the motor, only because it is not hard. However, I can't think of any problems leaving the bellhousing attached to the tranny in the car.
Remember, loosen the transmission crossmember or trans mount (or remove trans). This will allow you to lift the engine clear of the frame mounts then move the engine forward. Also, the engine will have to go forward (away from the trans) until the transmission input shaft clears the pressure plate (which goes with the engine). Remember to remove the starter or at least unbolt it so it won't be in the way. |
