What carb would you recommend for a stock 318 with a Holley Street Dominator. This addition is the first to be done to this engine with many changes to follow. Thanks in advance.

bbqchef. A good carb is a 600 CFM edelbrock. This carb will accommodate lots of changes to the 318, and deliver good performance.

625 Carter Comp. Made by Weber. Same as the 600 Edel but slightly more CFM and spring loaded needle valves.

I'm going to be different!! I like the Holley 600cfm 1850.I used several of these on various 318's with the Holley intake and it worked excellent.I also used the stock 340 cam in these 318's and they ran very well, smooth idle, very good power and 22mpg in my Duster with 2.76 gears.

I run the Edelbrock 600, model 1406, on my 87 Diplomat's 318. Works pretty good out of the box and I get about 20 mpg. I've run the Edelbrock 750, model 1407, for awhile and mileage with it was 15, never really tuned it in. However, I could do 120 with the 750, maybe I can hit 100 with the 600, if I find a long, straight downhill run. So what do you want? Mileage or top end? I picked mileage for my 318 and the 750 is on my 360.

I too have used a Holley 600 cfm with good results. I started with a 318, but found cheaper horsepower with more cubic inches. Remember...Cubic inches seperate the men fron the boys! lol

I'm using the Holley 1850 600 cfm carb on my 79 LeBaron and it seems to be enough carb for the motor. Mine is a fairly stock 318 with an 82 4 barrel cast iron manifold, egr, etc. My mileage suffers a bit but I think it was due to a misadjusted vacuum can on the distributor (the thing was adjusted in till the spring was fully compressed) I get about 11.5 mpg in town and 16 on the hiway (so far, lol). In my opinion the Holley is the way to go. cruzerjd

i used an 800 thermoquad from a 440 on my 74 dart 318 the motor was bone stock with a police car cast iron intake it took a while with a strip kit to dial it in (jets, metering rods etc.)but it was worth it i highly recomend it and the 3.90 rear didnt hurt either it was king of the stoplight grand prix
