Question

What exactly is the difference between the Magnum 360 out of a ram and the 380 crate engine. Is the compresion ratio the same? I know they have different cams but what else other than that? Heads, intake, crankshaft?

Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks.

many small performance differences, like the crate is a double roller motor, comes with an M-1 single plane manifold, higher comp ratio, mounting for any small block chassis, ten bolt valve covers, swirl port heads(not all magnums are swirls..), but share many things as well, as it seems that the crates are rebuilt magnum blocks. Most things that will bolt on a magnum from a truck will fit the crate. Oh, ..yes, the truck has serpentine pulleys for the accessories, the crate is old style, mechanical fan, etc

MTRV8N is pretty accurate on this. They basically look a lot alike on the outside but the 380 is just a hopped up carburated version with better compression and is actually supposed to be able to swap out with the MAGNUM except for the manifold in a new ram.

Some other stuff:

The Magnum crate engines have their deck-to-center-of-crankshaft heights machined down to 9.56 inches, which is shorter than the standard Magnum 9.58, and shorter still than the old LA spec of 9.60. This ups the possible compression ratio, decreases the piston crown to quench pad distance, and can mean that the faces of intake manifolds need to be milled to get a correct fit.

The camshaft on the Magnum crates is different than the factory truck Magnums in that it is a pre-1992 LA roller cam with the mechanical fuel pump eccentric still on the front. This requires more room on the timing chain cover, so the old design cover is used.

It is worth reading about problems with the Magnum Crate engines at this web address:
