I remember someone w/ a Charger 383, They put like a K kit for a 274 cam and 1.6 roller rockers. Can't remember what the mods to the heads were but he said it was fast.

Cam specs 274 dur/280
230/236 dur at 50
488/491 lift w/ 1.5 rockers, I think it is like
.525 w/ 1.6
I am thinkin that kit, the 1.6 rollers, ported '516s w/ bigger exhaust valve(1.74) and 9.5 to 1 CR. This would be topped w/ a Performer RPM and 750 SpeedDemon.

Other specs, 3600 lb Challenger
383 +.030, forged flat tops, cast crank, steel rods
727 Tflite, 2500 stall, stage 2 shift kit
8 3/4 w/ 489 case, 3.23 SG, 26 in rubber

What do you think this combo would do?

Yep, that's me you are thinking of, with a 70 Charger and 383. I ran the XE274 with 1.6 Crane Gold roller rockers. I have about 400 miles on it, and lovin' every minute of it! Pulls hard to 6 grand, not sure how much farther, I don't have the nerve yet. Clearance must be pretty close piston-to-valve. I have moderately ported and polished 906 heads, stock size valves, Performer RPM Hooker 1 7/8 with Flowmasters, all the usual goodies, 3.91 SG. I ran high 13s last year with a Lunati cam (216/226 duration at 0.050 and 455/470 lift at valve). I figure with the new cam, RR's, and windage tray, it feels like 13 flat or maybe 12.9, if I borrow some better rubber. When I put back in my 3.23's later today (time for some cruising) I expect to slow to probable mid 13's again. Let me know if you have any specific questions about the cam, or see my other threads concerning this. As far as I am concerned, the Xtreme energy cams work great, but I have limited experience with multiple camshafts. Vacuum is great, low end is STRONG, and as I said, it pulls VERY hard....

Thumbs up lost your email Fury

Hey, Fury boy, I accidentally deleted your email, so I will reply here. Yeah, your combo sounds well thought-out. I can personally recommend your selection, and attest to the combo. I like your choice of 3.73 gears. I would like to have a set of 3.73's with about a 28 inch tire. Do you have any pictures of your car? I have tried several times to attach one to these posts, but they fail to go through. Any idea why? Maybe I have not been a member long enough . . . If you have any specific questions just ask. I do know that you do have to do a very brief amount of grinding on the heads where the pushrods pass for clearance with the roller rockers, assuming you use the thicker-than-stock diameter push rods, which I think you will have to use, in a cup-end style to mate with the RR's. This can be done easily enough with the heads on, if need be; just use a drill, shop vac, and some rags.

Original 727 TF with "race" rebuilt kit and TCI 2600 stall. I run an Edelbrock Performer 750 carb; gets decent mileage but I often contemplate switching to a Holley or Speed Demon (terrible throttle response, tried all the tricks, still have a bad hesitation off the line, etc.)

Cool Thanks....

on a side note, a Demon requires a different kick down than a standard Holley, but the Demon is a GREAT CARB!
