Why am i having huge problems getting a decent water neck seal? What gasket sealer can u guys recomend? I have a feeling that the intake side may be warped, since iI have tried three different aftermarket necks. Even so, the sealer should take up some of it, shouldn't it? I did have some succes with this black goo foam, but it made a mess. HELP!!

Are you talking about the chrome ones?If you are try sanding off the chrome on the sealing surface. If left with a rough texture it will seal better. They also warp after awile and need to be flattened.I use permatex #2,the non hardening version on both sides of the gasket.

I had a nice looking chrome Mr. gasket water outlet that I filed flat twice in an effort to make it seal, finally gave up and painted cast iron stocker with aluminum paint and the leaking is over. What was really irritating is that it would sit there and leak without any pressure in the cooling system.

By all means throw the chrome water necks away! The only ones that work are made of cast iron.

No, I think the necks changed somewhere between 78 & 81, the newer ones bolt holes are closer together.

79 was the first year of the newer style water necks, it was also the 1st year they were offset on the intake. I use that brown non-hardening form-a-gasket gasket sealer on each side of the gasket when I put the waterneck back on, never had a problem with leaking.
