Just curious? (besides buying a Holley) I've dumped enough $$$ in this car. Stuck with the Edlebrock for now. Any tips greatly appreiciated Yes it's a 1407 manual choke. Combo is 440, 60 over 10.5 to 1. 509cam M1 single plane, 3500 stall, 3:23 rear.

Did the carb include a tuning manual? If not go to Edelbrock's website (www.edelbrock.com) and look under carburetors, then owner's manual and look at the tuning section. Seems to give a step by step procedure that should work.

The Edelbrock Performer carbs are the same as
the Carter AFB carbs that they sell now. They are both made by Webber.
Tuning them is easy by changing metering rods and jets just like the old Carter carbs.
Keep in mind the Performer 750 (#1407 manual choke) is jetted on the rich side for 'performance' tuning. Its a good match for long duration, high lift cams. I have the same carb with a mid range performance cam installed in a 383 it proved to be jetted a bit rich for my liking but it still runs great.

you didnt list your combo so ill give you some basics.1st when properly jetted for idle you should be able to pull off a live small vaccum line and get a very mild increase in rpm.less than 50rpms.if it stutters when you do this your too lean,if it jumps up more than 50 rpms your too rich.2nd,when changing jets remember the difference in primary to secondary diameter is .003,for instance, primary .110 secondary .107,when reducing or increasing jet size maintain this variable, for instance if you go to .101 pri mary youd run .098 secondary.a gas analyzer is about the only way to check midrange jetting...but if your idle and wot are on youll be so close in midrange it shouldnt matter.to check wot, install new plugs on a warm motor(ow!!)and run it full throttle avoiding part throttle operation as much as possible, and then inspect your plugs, your looking for a medium "rust/brown" color. The most overlooked portion of jetting is timimg.a 9:1 BB will like 40* or so,a 10:1 BB will like 37*,a 9:1 sb will like around 36* and a 10:1 sb will go around 34*,these are approximates, set timing before you start jetting.Hope this helps..PRO...
