I have tried very hard to get a part for my 88 Ram. I need the fuel tank sending unit for it and it seems there are no parts here in NY. I am looking for NEW or USED but I need one like some time this summer. At this point I need to know who can get one and what price it is. It's for a 3.9 V-6. If the 318 or 360 sending units are the same it could be from any truck. Please help me. I've known people to find parts for classics quicker than this!

To tell you the truth I dont really know. Does it matter? I never thought of that but I would guess it is the 33 gallon one because it took forever to fill it up. I never noticed how much I put in. Let me know if it makes a diff and how much. I know the dealer said it was like almost $300 for a new one but they would never get one from the depot for a long long time and there was a waiting list of about 300 people for one. Talk about yikes. I can't afford it now but I will be able to this summer and would like to get it fixed so I can use it if I have to and not leak gas all over.

My 88 is the LWB. Was there a standard tank size for the 1988 D100s?

I found an old(97) collision estimating guide. Don't quote me on any of this- but according to it, they either had a 22 or 30 gallon tank in 88, and the sending unit was the same for both tanks for that year. According to this, it is mopar part # 5217889, if that helps at all.

Did you try the local autoparts stores too? I imagine you can get these in the aftermarket. I bought mine from mopar two summers ago for somewhere around $100-150, but it is a different unit.

The part is only available throught a dealer unless mopar has some place I can call or something to get stock parts. My local mechanic tried as did I to find one elsewhere but the dealer is the place. I'm sure I have a 30 gallon then because once I remember the pump said 28 plus gallons when I filled it up. Like you said though the units are the same. What I need is a price. Like I said, I would like to get one this summer and I just need someone who can get one for me. I can pay the S&H and the price of the part and whatever else is needed. I need one and here they are hard to come by. I think my unit might be more since it's EFI on my 88? I'm not sure.

Question

Hey Ram, I called Napa here in Anchorage and the closest thing they could find was a MAP sensor, $87.99 and had one in stock for an 88 d-100. Is that what you're looking for?

No. This is the unit that goes in the gas tank of my truck to carry gas and tell me how much I have. It has the fuel pump attached to it. Parts of it are rusted through and when gas comes out the the pump and through the unit it leaks. If I fill the tank up gas pours all over the place from the unit until the level goes down. The part is only through a dealer but I can't get one so I was asking if anyone in other states had a way of getting one. There is a waiting list of 300 people here according to my 2 local dealerships.

My phone is (315) 312-5134. Let me make one stop first. I'll go over the the local dealer here and find out if it makes a difference. I'm almost sure I have a 30 gallon but I'd like to make positive that's the case. I'll let you know on Monday.
