Question

I have a slant six in my dart, and while I was cleaning the engine compartment out with a washcloth, I came across that the valve cover is painted red, why is that?

There was a red valve cover on the slant six, I had in my 68 Dart, so I pulled it out and put in a 360 V-8. I dont know why, but Im sure somebody on this site will know. Theres alot of knowlegeable people on this site. Good luck!

Early slant 6's were orange-red like a 318. They changed to blue in the mid-70's. Some were even yellow! I think they were only in trucks.

On my 71 Swinger, the valve cover was blue.

When I sold that car it had a 180,000 miles on its clock and it still ran great!

This was a few years ago but on my 81 ram I believe the 225 was painted red. Dont quote me on that one because I didn't have that truck long and didn't pay much attention. My 318 was black, my 238 is black.

I think '70 was the last year for red. "71 on up were blue. Early '60's truck motors were indeed yellow.

I found a pic of the motor. Yes mine was red, but then again so was the entire engine and compartment. It appears someone went painthappy. Under the red you can see blue though.

I believe '60 to '69 where red, '70 to '79 where blue, and '80 to '87 (last year in trucks, '84 last for cars) where black. Trucks where yellow, I don't know when this ended and went to blue though, pobably in the '72 redesign.

Hello there
Yes some slaint six valve covers where Red the older mopars
came that way form the factory, then in the last part of the 68
69 they went with the blue on the valve covers. The older
mopars motors all came with red valve covers .BLUE was used
the 1968 and newer.

Default valve cover color

I'm only familiar with a couple of family /6's. I had a '63 Valiant; the engine & cover were orangish red, and the cover was ribbed longitudinally. Sister had a '77 Aspen /6, and everything was blue, with no ribbing on the cover.

Don't forget the super slant 225 that came not only with a red valve cover but a red Air Filter Dish that said "225"

Default super 6

Actually, the '77 was an Aspen wagon, and it was the super 6(2bbl) engine, and yet had a blue engine color, black air cleaner. Guess it proves how hard it is to keep up with all this.

Late '60's motors were labeled "Super Six". They were red, and were only 1bbl's. I think Plymouth motors were Supers and Dodges were Charger 225's.
