Hi folks, I was wondering if anybody could describe or suggest a website outlining the proper steps in adjusting rocker arms? Specifically, I have about 500 miles now on my 383 with a new hydraulic cam (.524 lift), and new Crane Gold roller rockers (1.6 ratio). Is there a special sequence needed for this combo? Does the engine need to be warm, hot, etc. Can I expect to change the powerband much with varying the amount of lash, or is this not an issue with a hydraulic cam? Thanks in advance.

Hi Charger500guy, I just did the same thing you are doing. I installed Indy Cylinder Head roller rockers in my 70 340 with a Hughes engine 540" lift hydraulic cam. I was able to scrounge up a old MP Valve Lash Adjustment Chart. I started at TDC and tightened my rockers until all the freeplay is taken out of the pushrod without pushing the plunger down and then I went 1/2 of a turn tighter. I've heard some people say you should go a full turn, but I think you will loose some RPM if you do. Anyway here is the chart and I hope it helps.
Intake Exhaust TDC #1 firing set #2 #8 Rotate 90 degree set #1 #4 Rotate 90 degree more, set #8 #3 Rotate 90 degree more, set #4 #6 Rotate 90 degree more, set #3 #5 Rotate 90 degree more, set #6 #7 Rotate 90 degree more, set #5 #2 Rotate 90 degree more, set #7 #1 Good luck, Kevin. |

Thanks, Kevin. Do you ever get around to any of the shows here in SD?
