Hey guys, i just got a body and paint estimate from a local body man that has had cars in major magazines(hot rod, super shiivvy, etc.) . Now my car has rust in the quarters, doors, rockers, trunk floor, front fenders, and the roof(damn vinyl top). It also has 26 holes down each side from trim that i want taken off and pretty good stress cracks in the metal in the upper quarters. Basically rust everywhere except the frames. And hes painting everywhere (jams, trunk, engine compartment). His total estimate is $3,500+ $26/hr for rust repair. Here's how it breaks down, $2,000 for all paint labor and materials, $1,000 for painting door jambs, engine compartment and trunk, etc which includes removal and reassembly of decklid fenders door, etc. , $500 for welding in all the 26 holes down each side. All this plus $26/hr for rust repair.
Does this sound too high? I guess it sounds good for the quality of this guys work, hes a perfectionist to say the least.
Thanks for responses and sorry for the long post.

Oh yeah, he said the soonest he could get to it was September cause some farmer wants to save his '96 chevy truck that he rolled a few times. It would also take 3-4 months.

Post Body and Paint

That price is not bad, the number one guy around here can't quote you a price until the body is stripped down to bare metal! Before he can give you a price on rust repairs. His cars win shows, but you almost have to give him a blank check.
