Ok, after finding out how much it will take to make my 318 perform I just decided to but a crate 360 magnum from mopar performance... but I have no idea what I will need to change and what I can keep. Does the trans need to be swaped and what other parts am I going to need for the change?

you will need the motor mounts that bolt to the block because they are diffrent than the 318 also you will need a flywheel or toqure converter for a 360 because the 360 is externaly balenced and the 318 is internaly balenced you may also need a harmonic balencer for the 360 if one doesent come with it

I just did the same swap. I needed a counter balanced flex plate, motor mounts, fuel pump, throtle and kick down linkage,a drop down breather, and I had to put on a 318 water pump to match up to my radiator as the 360 pump was on the wrong side.Good luck!

The magnum uses a different imbalance than LA 360s, so choose your converter carefully. I recommend (and did) using the B&M weighted flexplate and a zero balance converter.
One motor mount bracket is different, I think it is the drivers side. Mancini (and others) sell them new. ------------------ 68 Cuda, twisties style http://members.xoom.com/magnumcuda/sprfish.htm 96 Club Cab 4x4, Cummins 5spd |

Gee,
Just this weekend I swapped the 318 out of my 87 Diplomat and put a 360 in. Here's what HAS to be done. The driver's side motor mount on a 318 is wider where it bolts to the block than the 340 or 360. You can spend money for the right bracket or you can put a spacer between the rear bolt and the ear on the block. I used two thick washers and a std washer, the space is about .400" The torque converter balance is neutral on a 318, the Magnum 360 is externally balanced. You can do one of three things to address this, well 4 but the fourth is a dumb move, ignore it. Number one, buy a new torque converter with the right weight for a magnum 360 on it. Number two, buy the MP balance kit for magum 360's and have those weights welded to your torque converter. Number three, my favorite, buy the B&M weighted flexplate for the magnum 360. That is all you HAVE to do to swap a 360 in place of a 318. This assumes you will run the same carb setup as the 318 (2bbl or 4bbl). Run the 318's water pump, acessories, fuel pump, etc. Steve |

What year and model are you doing this in! The 87' mentioned below, was basically the same advise I was given before deciding to make the change. However in my 66' Coronet, about the only thing I was able to re-use was the oil pump. I took out a 318 wide block and put in a 73' 360. The passenger side motor mount wasnt even close to fitting. The contour of the 360 block was different.
