I know that the hot header setup is TTI for SB. I heard that they are great and fit right in. I'm also being told that a real cost effective header for a 340 A body is
Flowtech. Has anybody heard of these or tried them and how did they perform well. I have the stock HP manifolds now but want to go the header route. I'm looking for an easy header install but really dont want to fork out the 500.00 + for the TTI's. thanks

I've got a set of flow tech heades (from autozone) on my 67 dart 318 manual stering. The motor is a low comprssion and small cammed and runs 14-0's on MT indy S/S tires. I also did not have to use an oilfilter adapter. I just use a filter from a 74 318 which is shorter than the older ones. I've had them for 6 years and they have not leaked or rotted.

I had a freind install a set of FlowTech headers. They fit pretty good. I have owned a small block from day one. I HATE small block street headers. I'm going to Hooker Super Comp's.
On the street design, it hangs to low on the driver side. Not to mention dropimg that front end peice to install them. The tubes now run under that link. TOOOOO LOW.
Another thing that annoying is the #3 tube runs the length of the valve cover, makeing spark plug changes on the #5&#7 cylinders hard. Some headers are better than others in this area.

Skip the Headman Headers for the A-Body SB set up. They totally stink. Tubes on the driver's side drop below the centerlink and the center tube (#3?) crosses the head just below the valve cover making it easy to torch those expensive spiral wires on. The flanges are horrible and mine always leak.

Hi Mr D. Jones;

I have used Thorley headers on all my SB A bodys and they don't have any of the nagging problems others have, they don't hang down( can't be seen from the front) they don't block access to spark plugs. They are nickle plated the flanges are thick. You need to remove started and jack up engine to get them in place. The cost is not to bad about $350.

Do you have a pic of the Thorley headers you could post or send? I figure Tri-Ys will work better for my combo than TTIs.

I have two a-bodies and 80 dodge van. The 68
gts (strickly race) have 2" w-2 hooker
competion. The 68 barracuda (street-strip)
have 1 7/8 Headman and the van uses thorley
tri-y headers. Both a-bodies are a pain
to re-move and install but do not hang
too low. Both a-bodies have one tube
that goes threw the fenders. None have
leaks but the gaskets only last 8-mos-1 year. The thorley's have the thickest flanges and are high quality. I coated the
hookers, it keeps the engine bay cooler
and the headers clean up like new.
GOOD LUCK.

Well I traded a set of old rusty traction bars for my headers and they are not bad. They have the tube that runs along valve cover but spark plug change is easy. The flanges are wimpy but have 2 gaskets to keep from leaking and coated with eastwoods high temp stuff. It hasn't burnt off yet. Just got my motor in '74 dart. But for free they work fine. Tim

Schumacher had a REAL NICE set of tri-Y headers on display at the Mopar Nationals (and also last year) that will let a big block go in an A body with no problem. He says they'll be building a small block set this winter. Only problem is the $500.00 price.
