Question

HEY GUYS, AFTER READING GARYS TOPIC WITH THE 340 MODS, AND ALL THE TALK ABOUT HEADER SIZES, I STARTED WONDERING ABOUT THE SET OF HOOKER FENDERWELL HEADERS I HAVE FOR MY DUSTER. THE PRIMARYS ARE 1 7/8", AND I'M NOT SURE ON THE COLLECTOR. WILL THESE HEADERS HURT MORE THAN HELP ON A STOCK 69 440 FOR DRAG RACING?. I PLAN ON RUNNING OPEN WITHUOT MUFFS. WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS SETUP TO COUNTER ANY NEGATIVE EFFECT?
SPECS; 4:30 GEARS, 3800 STALL, MANUAL VALVE BODY, BONE STOCK INTERNALS AND CARB, MALLORY UNILITE MECH ADV., MSD 6AL, 30X9X15 MT DRAGS.
I KNOW YOU GUYS HAVE GIVEN ME SOME ADVICE ON THIS CAR, BUT I CAN'T RECALL GIVING THE HEADER PRIMARY SIZE.
THE OTHER QUESTION IS THE 30X9X15 MT DRAGS, I GOT THEM CHEAP(READ $25) AND THEY HAVE SEVERAL RUNS LEFT ON THEM. I'D PREFER THE 28X11.5X15 ET STREETS, BUT CANNOT FIND THE CASH RIGHT NOW. ANY IDEAS? THANKS, MOTOR

Thumbs up

About the only thing this pri. tube size will likely do is soften up the bottom end just a bit. The other side of it is that as you put more money (read speed parts) in the engine to help it breathe better and build more top end power these will help it rev. better than the 1 3/4" pri. tube headers. Collector size is likely 3" or possibly 3 1/2". In short, they are ok. The old hippie hisself

Actually the 1 7/8 will work great with your combo. The collectors are either 3 or 3.5".I'm thinking of changing my headers to 1 7/8 next time I replace them.(I have 2" now)The 9" tires are fine.Remember NHRA stockers run a 9x30,and they run as fast as 10.30's,so tire size isn't that important. What is important is overall diameter vs. rear gear and converter selection, which you have all correct in my book.

Thanks guys for the replies. I've asked so many questions that i sometimes forget what i've asked or what the answer is!. My main concern with the tire diameter is that it is a tight fit in the duster, also the height at which the ss spring raised the rear end. I was really surprised at how much the car raised.
I picked up my drive shaft sat,(.095)wall, spicer joints, balanced, ect,. The trans and brake lines are in. Fuel lines and electrical next. It won't be long now. Thanks again, Motor
