Question

I just parted out a 79 Cordoba with a 360 leanburn two barrel. The motor went in my 80 van. What I am trying to figure out is what kind of trans this is. It is removed and it has a lock-up converter. It is not an overdrive trans. I have heard that all 360's came with the 727. I have a 727 longtail, non lock-up, in my van now, and I am wondering if this Cordoba tranny is a 727, will the lock-up converter fit in my non lock-up van trans? And does anyone make a high stall lock-up converter that would fit this trans I have in my van? Any help would be great, these vibrations are driving me crazy and keeping me from driving my mopar! Thanks, Frank.

Frank, one easy way to tell if it's a 727 or a 904 is the shape of the trans oil pan. A rectangular one is a 904 (999, 998). If it has a bump out to one side it's a 727.
Sorry, I can't offer any help on swapping the torque converters.

Thumbs down Trans converter

I read that there are differences between the lockup and regular converters.
They have a difference of one spline between them so that they cannot interchange. The trans is also different, valve body, input shaft, pump and rear clutch drum. This had to do with what makes the converter lock up. Early lockups used hydraulics and sometime in late 80's they went to a electric solenoid in the valve body. I don't know if anyone makes a high stall lockup converter.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the quick reply guys! The only reason I got it in my head about a lockup high stall converter is I just got my new issue of Mopar Muscle and they installed one in a M body. Thanks again for the replys!

The only one I know of that makes a high stall lock-up converter is Mopar Performance. They are pretty costly though. $400-500 for a decent one
