Question

Cause my car likes to overheat after about 30 mins in street driving, I'm in Houston, and we've had 100+ weather for near a week, and my car has started to act up?

Its a '78 360, thanx all!

No fan shroud, also this is not a stock engine, 'obviously', It has been bored .30' over, and has almost actually all aftermarket parts, the fan was off a 318 I'm guessing, because before we bought the car, it was a 318 car and the previous owner slapped a 360 in there, and used 318 parts around to substitute for anything missing i.e. exhuast, which has since been replaced.

if you cant get a shroud move the fan as close as you can to the radiator or a fan with more blades or more of a pitch

Red face

I was told to go with a 180 thermo, cause it gets real hot, what would be the best thermo to keep the engine going when it gets over 100 degress, because thats when the car can only run for a little while.

Odds are you have a 2 row radiator, right? If it has over 100k miles on it I would have it recored. Any raditor shop should be able to order and install a 3 row core for around $200. If it is heating up, a thermostat and a shroud may help, but the 360's extra cubes need more radiator.

FYI, I just put a 360 in a Coronet and having the same problems on hot days. I have the larger radiator (26") and a flex fan. I plan on moving the fan closer to the radiator (will end up about 3/4" away) and installing a shroud. Im already running the 160 thermostat but will need to change that for winter use up here in NH. Putting in a water temp guage to see just how hot its running. Im using a 16 lb. radiator cap.

I am referring to the regular radiator. Most of the racing radiators are of cross flow design. Have the Radiator shop put a 3 row core in your current radiator. It sounds like it is time to get it boiled/rodded anyway (109k miles).

Another thing: the flex fan is a horsepower robber. The way to go is with the clutch style fan. The MP catalog has a nice set up for the clutch fan.
