Hello there,

I was wondering if there was a general consensus as to the value of a G-tech? I am considering purchasing one, and wondered if they are worth the dough. Also, can anybody tell me how they are including pictures in their posts? I have tried several times, several ways.

Default Pretty close

I tested a friend's G-Tech at the track. It was within a tenth of a second on every pass and was always 3 mph too high on mph readings. That pretty accurate for something that you stick to your windshield!

I tried one for a couple of weeks. It is fairly accurate, but for me it was a toy that faded rapidly. How often can you come to complete stop, get the thing dead level ( not easy) and then blast off for a full 1/4 mile.? Depending on how your car runs, that may not be easy. Now if they made a 1/8 Mile model......! I sent mine back to Summit.

Wink

I guess it's just easier for me because I live on the edge of town. Arizona has thousands of miles of mostly "deserted" roads for me to "test" on. Although, sometimes it's still tough finding at least 1/2 mile of road that nobody is using.

check out www.gtechpro.com

their claim is that the mph is a bit high because it's more accurate than the track. quote from the site: "G-TECH/Pro is a very accurate machine, and the trap speed result that you get from the G-TECH/Pro is actually more accurate than the racetrack. Reason is that the racetrack averages your speed over a 60 feet stretch between two beams and G-TECH/Pro measures your speed at the exact 1/4 mile point."

Personally if I could afford one I'd buy one. I don't have any drag strips nearby and I think it would be a great alternative. Not to brag about times or anything but to give me an idea of what my car can do. and to let me know how certain mods affect the car. as long as it's somewhat accurate and consistent I'd be happy with one.

I have one and it's a fun toy, expecially if you have several cars that never see the race track, but you guys are right, that it is hard to find a nice straight road where you can blast a full 1/4 mile. Rember that most of our Muscle cars will be around 100 +/- 20 MPH at the end of a 1/4 mile

I love mine,Ive had it for 1 year, its a great tool for comparative purposes, its accurate,I run within 1 tenth at the track,I have it in my car when I make a pass nso I can really see how accurrate it is,mph is off because its not an averaged mph like the dragstrip uses, mine reads 2-4 mph higher.to really use it for comparative purposes you need to make several passes on the SAME piece of blacktop. Its worth every cent,as far as guys wanting a 1/8 mi time you can use just the 0-60mph timer too .....PRO....

Default Don't forget the corners!

Remember, it also measures g-forces. I use mine to evaluate suspension modifications. Since my thing is road racing, this feature is very useful.

Again, thanks for all of the replies. Does anybody have anything to say about the "horsepower mode"? What sort of numbers does one get for horsepower using this?

Cool

It is a good way of evaluating upgrades to determine if they are a good value for performance gained. You don't always need to test it on a full quarter mile, as you can evaluate 0-60 and other ways to determine if there is a gain. Be sure to test on the same stretch of road, with about the same amount of fuel, similar weather conditions, etc. to get the best comparison.

As far as the horsepower goes, you need to be able to dial in an accurate weight to make it work. I hear it is a little less accurate on heavy vehicles, such as my 7000lb diesel Ram.
