I have the chance to buy a 440 crank turned to 400 mains, but the rod journals were turned to fit chev rods. Is or was this a good set up? Would it be cheaper to build using the chev parts? I can get it for $200, but he said it needs to be done 10/10 to clean it up. It was done 10 years ago, but never used. I plan on building a stroker 400, and have the block and other parts already, but I don't have the rotating assy.
Any advice would be appreciated. |

Is this a off set ground crank? Muscle Motors sells these, the crank is offset to use the GM rod and can be made a 474 ci stroker. If it a off set crank and can be cleaned up 10/10 no problem it would be worth $200. Hope this helps.
Ps MM also sells the Ross pistons for this, give them a call and see what they have to say. |

Thanks to JericoGTX
I will be talking with this guy again Saturday afternoon, I will ask him. Thanx for the info. Maybe I'll see you at Mopars in the Park June 2nd and 3rd. I'll have a swap space there. Look for the black Plymouth Voyager and two place trailer.
Happy Moparing! |

Sounds like you found a deal
I personaly think its a good idea to go with the big block chevy rods. Ever check the prices for a 440 Manley aluminum rod and a 454 rod? I think the difference is about 200 bucks. Keith black makes a piston for this set up too. Good luck with it, sounds interesting to me.

I may be wrong but doesnt Eagle make a rod for this combination? What rod does Muscle Motors use in the kits?

Lets see - the crank was turned for BBC rods 10 years ago and never used, but it now needs to be turned 10-10. Whats wrong with that picture?? In any case - this is one method of stroking a MOPAR crank. One problem thought - the BBC rods are narrower than the Mopar rods so the side clearance can be excessive. That may not be a problem for a race engine but all that oil can be a problem for a street engine. There are some rods available with the BBC journal and the correct Mopar width but are more expensive.

Eagle does make the rod you need. If the crank has been sitting for ten years,i think id have it checked anyway. bbc rods though. Isent there a reason you'r a Mopar man. Does the word BOOM ring a bell. Read that crank even turned down to fit 400 will withstand up to 550 foot lbs of torque. Also motor made that on pump gas. Do they even make bbc's that hold togeather at that level. Ever compared bbc rod even to small block Mopar. Puney little excuse for a rod anyway. Buy the crank, buy the rods from Eagle,or allot of the bbc sets.
