I never pay attention to initial timing, I just set it at 35 degrees at 3000 rpm and give it a quick rev while watching the timing light to make sure it doesn't go past 35 degrees total timing. Is this the best way?

Hi scamp: you helped me maybe I can return the favor. I only pay attention to inital timing for two reasons. Idle quality and being able to start the engine. This is on street cars as the race cars have just enough spring to retard the timing for starting. The cuda's timing is all in before 1000. All warmed and redeady I move the timing at idel to acheive max vacuum(best idle) then modify weight slot to acheive this setting at idel and still have what I want total. Also i had a snubber on the cuda set at 1in. It never touch the pad so i took it off. Am putting in a trans brake and snubber is going back on. Probably start at 1/2in and go from there.
