hi men
the 383 of my Challenger has a 280 cam (MP4452993) holley 750,headers.It runs on rpms quite slow, has very little vacuum, and lacks of torque.I'm thinking to advance the camshaft, but need some tech tips from someone pro with these engines. Also, does this Mopar need an aftermarket intake? (it has stock converter,727,3:23) Thank you in advance for any feedback. |

Mr Gasket sells a kit that works for either of the camshaft sprocket retaining methods. One is the same as a Chevy (3 bolt cam sprocket) with offset dowel pins. You will have to follow the instructions, but what I remember is to drill out the 3 bolt holes to 11/32" to allow a slight rotation of the sprocket on the cam. Be careful to get the dowel pin in correctly. You want to change the relative relationship of the cam with respect to the crank. The other method uses an offset woodruf key and is easy to install by swapping out the factory key with the correct offset one. If valve clearance was tight on initial install, be safe and recheck it after advancing the cam.

I guess I'm going to have the second method, and for sure I'll read carefully instructions and related articles on old magazines, there is nothing as good as performing ourselves engine jobs on our cars.. Hope this operation will turn my 383 faster. thanks for help |
