There a couple of ways of telling what a 727 is. On the drivers side of the tranny, just above the pan is a machined surface with a series of numbers stamped on there. This series of numbers is the part number and the date code. This will tell you exactly what tranny you have and what day of what year it was built. You'll need a magic decoder ring though. Other way to go is to check the passenger side of the bellhousing for the VIN stamp. First digit on the VIN stamp should be the model year.
