I'm attempting to bolt my oil pump on, does it need a gasket between it and the block? I would think so, but the gasket kit didn't come with one, nor did the pump. Thanks

YOU are Correct SIR!~
Yes you must have a new gasket or that pump will LEAK oil all over the place!
If it is a high volume be prepared to torque the hell out of the bolts to get that sucker tight enough to keep from leaking. For some reason they leak a bit until they are broke in I guess. |

OKAY, My 318 did NOT have a gasket between the oil pump and mounting pad, I haven't really looked in the gasket kit to see if there's a gasket in there for the oil pump, BUT if there's not one, should I MAKE one? or should I just use RTV between the mounting surfaces? My exhaust didn't have a gasket either, but in the gasket kit I did SEE new exhaust gaskets, I talked to the machine shop, he said "when they are new(engines, that is) the surfaces are as straight as they will ever be, so an exhaust gasket is NOT needed, but after running say 80,000 to over 100,000 miles the surfaces can warp? So a gasket will be necessary to seal the exhaust" I can understand this, makes sense! but I can't really see that cause/effect situation with an oil pump! What's the solution?
