i may be running into a wall here.. but i've been rolling this idea around for a while. taking a 70-74 challenger convertable and making it into a unique daily driver. all the conveniences of modern day cars, but yesterdays looks. taking a 5.2 or 5.9 magnum truck/van engine and mating it to a manual trans of some sort. the wiring harness would in turn allow for power windows, locks, etc. my dillema would be finding someone to do the custom work of dropping the drivetrain in as i am not nearly experienced enough to do that part. are there any people/companies who do this sort of thing? is this a feasable swap? by rough estimate i would think i could do this for the same cost of a new sports car (20-25K?). the biggest expense would hinge around the drivetrain. i've seen creampuff slant 6 and 318 e bodies go pretty cheap. i could do most of the other work myself or have done at a normal price if i could just get the engine/trans done reasonably. just a thought, but could go further if things look good...

There was a car featured in Mopar Action, I believe, a couple of years ago that had a 5.9 and a 46rh trans from a truck. Was a very clean job and looked great.

After digging through the boxes I finally found it. Mopar Action Oct 95. The car was built by a gentleman named Paul Suloff of Akron Ohio. It's a 70 Challenger and is A1!
.."cruises at 70mph at 2500 rpm with 4.10 gears. And gets 21 mpg..."

Go for it . Iv'e seen this done in a mag before. Just draw a map of where all the wires go and follow what the factory did when you put it back in. You'll have to cut your driveshaft down. YOU CAN DO IT!

Thumbs up

Not so wild at all. I'm planning to do the same sort of thing with a 73 Dodge B200 van. Very hard to find retro parts and anyone to do any work. With a little creativity and a lot of re-engineering, it'll be worthwhile (I hope!) Good luck with your project.

Good idea. I don't Know how much cheap is to you but i haven't seen an e-body convertible go for less than 12 Gs in the last 8 months

I just dug out an issue of Mopar Muscle, March 2000. It has a report on a Fuel Injected Hemi Cuda. His setup gets him 15 mpg. I don't know what you'd rather have, but a hemi cuda is better than sex.
