MY BUDY JUST PULLED HIS MOTOR BECAUSE IT WAS MISSING REAL BAD. PULED THE HEAD AND THE GASKET WAS BURNED THROUGH BETWEEN CYLINDERS 3 AND FIVE. THAT IS JUST THE HALF OF IT ALSO COOKED THE BLOCK AND HEADS 1/8 DEEP IN BOTH! CAN THIS BE WELDED? ALSO THE ONLY CHANGE TO THE CAR WAS THE MOROSO ELECTRIC WATER PUMP WHICH PUT SOME KIND OF ELECTRCAL INTERFERIENCE AND CAUSED THE MOTOR TO MISS. SUGGESTIONS?

I have had a 360 block welded in the main bearing area because a main was chipped really bad.
They preped the weld area, pre-heated the block and welded the block with a nickle welding rod.
The block was re-machined (mains align honed) after the welding was done.

Ive seen it twice before from inadequate octane in a high compression engine, both were smallblocks. This kind of failure will make it miss initially I imagine adding the elect w/p was just coincidence,Ive never seen anyone fix it though,Id be sure to get someone very experienced in welding cast iron, like some old timer whos been around awhile, especially one that worked on old L and f head jeeps as they always cracked the blocks. You didnt say was it a bb or sb?how high compression, did it fail under wot or cruising?.......PRO....

A crack around the main bearing is a simple fix. A crack in the upper cylinder wall and cylinder head cannot be properly fixed by welding, due to the high heat environment.

The cylinder walls can be sleeved. I have also seen an article on how to repair cracks in the head with small bolts. It was a neat trick and that engine is probably still running.
