I have a 360 4 barrel, edelbrock performer intake.9:1 compression ratio, mopar performance cam 268 to 272 duration, bored .030 over with a 600cfm edelbrock carb with electrict choke #1406. I have not really played with the metering of the carb to try and slove my lean problem at higher rpms but is it worth it or should i try a larger carb. At first i thought it was an ignition problem because i could only get 6 volt at the coil,do you need a different ballast resistor to run with different ignition modules, i have a chrome module is it to much, or will it not make that much of a difference. someone told me the problem of on;y getting 6 volts at the coil is a common mopar problem, but cant rember what the cure was. maybe somoen can help me answer a few of these questions. thanks.

The 600 is a lil'thin. It should still work well. Try and richen up the secondarys to rid yourself of the miss. If you have loe gears ( 2.76-3.23) the carb is fine. A larger unit (750) would be a lil'hard to deal with. No impossible , just hard.
Never heard of the 6volt syndrome. I also have run the chrome. Now its a MSD. |

I agree with rumblefish on the carb size as long as you dont have headers,if you do run the 750,you can bypass the ballast resistor and get a full 12 volts to the coil and box,it wont hurt a thing and will make a lot hotter spark,I always get a ign box mount from a mid 70s full size car, thay space the box 1/2" off the firewall for better air circulation.........PRO...........

PRO.........tell me more, what is this E.C.U. box spacer? what cars/trucks had this spacer?......sounds like a good idea.

What year/body car are you working with? That might be a key to the voltage issue.
As far as the carb goes, keep in mind that the carb you have is a mileage/emisions carb, the intake you have actually has ports that are SMALLER than a stock 360 intake, and depending on the lift of the cam, you may be running a profile that is very close to "stock" for a 340/360 4 barrel. Aslo, make sure that you have enough fuel delivery at the higher RPM's too. Get the calibration kit and a vacuum guage that you can watch WHILE YOU DRIVE. I've seen many times where an induction like that will make the vacuum go back up as the RPM goes up (since it is restrictive) and then close off the power circuit of the primary side of the carb. Have a friend watch the tach and vacuum while you make a hard run (especially in the upper gears - where you load it longer and slower). Good Luck |

For the carb issue, definately get the calibration kit and try that first. The best thing about the edel. carbs it their ease of tuning, do everything with carb still on the car and no gas leaks! I have a 383 w/rpm and 750 edel w/elec choke on mine. It has never run good w/this carb and I have tried many different setups. Yesterday I installed the holley 600 that came on the car and what a difference! From the moment I turned the key it sounded great! Anyway, for the electrical, I haven't tried pros suggestion but I will be installing an MSD al6, can't wait. Mancini does list different resistors for the orange/chrome ecu's. At $5 a piece it's worth a try! <><
