I use to run 906 heads with the 2.14 and 1.81 valves bought a set of 452 heads from a swap meet had them ported and polished put the 2.14 and 1.88 Manley Stainless steel valves in them car went from best of 11.09@119.45 to 10.61@125.78 as far as your wife goes she will learn with time had my 70 Challenger for 29 years and the wife for 27 years remember speed cost it depends how fast you want to go

Cool,, now all I gotta do is find me a pair of 452's. I have 3 old 440 engines in my shop, guess I better check them & see. I may already have a pair. thanks - Thomasray..

Thomasray,
Before you totally eliminate the 906 heads, let me point out that moparchas not only changed heads, he ported and polished them too. This could be misleading you into believing it was the fact that the 452 heads are that much better than the 906s. The question is, were the 906 heads ported and polished too??? If so, to the same extent the 452s were??? Just for comparison as far as porting/polishing goes, I ported, polished and port matched the intake and exhaust ports to the intake and exhaust manifolds on a set of 2.02 Corvette 350 open chamber heads for my friends race car. He dropped 1/2 a second too. I think the stock flo capabilities of the 2 types of heads is similar. Check this out before you rule out the 906s. Richard |

The major differance between the 906 and older heads and the 346 and newer heads is in the short side radius when you get into flow capibilities of the two heads. In un modified stone stock form the 906 will flow a tad better than the 452. Pocket port each head and install the 2.14 and 1.88 valves and the 452 will out flow the 906 due to the better design of the short side radius. Yes, if you want to spend mega bucks on your heads you can make a set of 906 castings flow close to 300 cfm at 650 (depends on whose flowbench is used and what the heads are flowed at ie....10 inch of mercury or 28 inches of mercury) but the cost is going to get the wife on your case big time. Your call.......The old hippie hisself.

You guys are correct as usual...However,the increase from 1.81 to 1.88 exhaust valves,is the real reason I belive the 452 heads did better. The big block Mopars love big exhaust valves, the Max Wedge engines had this size valve too.Just increasing the exhaust valve size alone the car will pick up e.t.and horsepower. However as has been pointed out,I don't think we had a equal test here. The 906's duplicated like the 452's would do just as good.
