I was thinking of using totalseal gapless piston rings in my project. To me the benifits are clear however Im assuming there must be a down side to them too otherwise everyone would use them. Everyone feel free to post your negative comments or experiances about these things

hey
there really is no downside to them whatsoever, they only reason not everyone uses them is because they are more expensive than regular rings.
but what means more to you? 100 dollars or zero leakdown? as well, you gotta be careful with them. if you rev the motor anything past idle when its cold, you could very well leave some healthy marks on your cylinder walls. and make sure you spend the extra money on honing your cylinders at a proper shop, with a honing plate and everything...unless they are PERFECTLY round your gonna have problems with your engine. |
