I have 2-71 Chargers, both 383 auto. One is pretty nice, the other needs complete front and rear sub frames (Rust). Both were unmolested # matching cars. Larry

What tire/rim size combo are you guys running up front?

Right now, with the factory 14x6?" steel rims with 215/60r14 tires, the front fascia hangs real low, about 8"s off the ground.

To me the wheel well looks really round, so what rim [size+offset] and tire combo will look good? I don't really want the pizza cutter look, but at most 15x8s at at least 15x6s.

The rears i have now are 15x8 4.5" backspacing, with 275/60r15 radials.

Thanks!

I have 255 60R 15 Gdyr Eagle 1's on the front and 275's on the back. They are on a set of the Cragar S/S's. I'm not much of a technoid, but I do have a couple of pictures I could email- I just don't know how to post them here. I'm welcome to any tips.

Hey Chuck-
If you could mail them to me that would be awesome. My email is MachManny@aol.com Thanks!

Also, my Charger right now is spending the night at an exhaust shop. I asked my muffler guy to run a 2.5" H pipe for me, with the balance pipes i bought from summit. According to him, there's isn't enough room, and would limit clearance at 2.5"s so he left it out.

I'm not sure where it crosses over on the stock exhaust, but i was trying to get it right below the tailshaft of the tranny, before the u-joint between the tranny and driveshaft.

What are your exhaust set ups?

I'll send you those pictures. I have the exhaust system that came with the car when I got it- not sure if its the best set up. I have 2 3/4 Doug Thorley headers going into 3 inch pipes. I don't know what kind of mufflers- seems like your generic Turbo-type. I need an "H" pipe one of these days.

Colormeclone-
Haha my charger is that color. I called it metallic brown, but it is actually "aztec brown"... It'll get repainted no doubt after i straighten out some body panels.

Chuck-
I'm trying to decide what rim/backspacing would be practical to run for my front rims. I don't mind if the rims aren't a matching set to the rears, but i was thinking 15x7s, and was going to run 245/60r15 Firehawks, but i can't decide what backspacing to run. 4.5"-5" But for now, the front suspension sags so low i've got too much positive? camber that it sits like VW bug. I'd imagine tightening up the torsion bars should solve it. Thanks.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, been out of town. The wheels I am running won't help you because they are the 15-6 road wheels that were on it when I bought the car 2 years ago. The exhaust is the factory HP manifolds into 2 1/2 pipe to flow masters to 2 1/2 out the back. I like it some of my neighbors don't(tough). I plan on 15-8 Magnum wheels in the future. Larry

Cool

I have a '71 Charger 500, originally a 383 4-bbl car. It now has a 451 stroker engine.
I run 15x7 3.5" offset Centerline Telstar rims with 255x60x15 tires. These are OK sized, but you cam put larger under the car.

When I race, I have 15x10 (5" offset) rims on the rear with 11.5" x 26" MT street ET tires.

Some old pics at my webpage http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/4451

P.S. I hope this works, it's my first post to the board.

I know you said 71-74, but I wanted to say something to keep my membership up. I own a 70 R/T whith p245/60's in front and p275/60's in back. Or it could be the other way around. Does anyone understand these newfangled tire sizes anyway?

Chuck-
Yes they downloaded great. Sweet looking rod.

The metric tire sizes start with, say 245/60r15. 245 is the width in mm, 60 is the aspect ratio which determines the height of the tire, ie 60% of 245mm, and r for some reason is in inches, which determines the radius of the rim that the tire is going on. Yes, quite confusing!

JR-
I've got the same rear setup 275/60r15 and am thinking of 245/60r15 front tires.

I just need to get my torsion bars tightened.

Crzy- Thanks for the kind remarks. It's amazing how many people (even other Mopar enthusiasts) haven't been exposed to the later cars. It seems at times we don't get a lot of respect even though we can still haull A**! Even though the older cars are worth more, I think the later B-bodies are sleeper investments. I've enjoyed everyone's comments on this topic. If anyone knows of any cool web sites please advise!
