We run a twin turbo, intercooled, EFI, 340 in a 70 Challenger with a 5 speed (road race clone). 14 psi on pump gas on 8 to 1 compression with water injection.

Cmyindy: The Challenger is setup for handling and high speed, so straight line traction isn't optimized. Never have taken it to the strip.

Novicius has been kind enough to post some pics he took in St. Paul this year. The engine pics are under the "mill" section.

It is a Speedpro EFI with wide band O2, 36# injectors. Intercooler is made of 2 smaller Garrett units that have been made into 1. The engine is a 340 block converted to 4 bolt mains, head and main studs, O-rings, sst valves, hardened seats, forged pistons, 8 to 1 compression, huge oil pump, dual remote filters, oil cooler, special grind cam.

The twin turbos reduce the lag, but it is still there a small amount. For the uses that we do, it is not at all a problem.

We were looking for maximum output and efficiency, which the turbos do better than a supercharger. The parasitic losses are much larger with the supercharger, although throttle response is a little better.

We get very good mileage, super performance, and good durability. Driveability is as good as stock 318.

Turbos aren't for everyone or every purpose, but can be very good when done well for the correct application.
