Question Thrust bearing vaporization

Anyone had any problems with small blocks eating thrust bearings?
Any Ideas why?

If your thrust bearing is hurt on the backside, do you have a convertor that has ballooned?

No visible balooning we measured as close as we could and all seems OK
We were running a Hughes 3000 convertor and foot braking the launch at 3000.
I'm about to go back together with a GER 4000 stall and a B&M SFI flex plate. We checked the hole in the crank OK
?????????????

My friend had his thrust bearing go in few miles. It was so bad you could move the crank by hand. He had a 3500 Cone converter. My 400 had no probs foot braking at 3500 with a TCI converter. It was used for 100+ passes and 25000 km street duty.thrust bearing is good. My friend with a 318 and TCI converter also smoked a thrust bearing. Small blocks are bad for that I guess. Sorry I can't help.

Have you been warned about GER convertors yet?

Post End Play

I have been told that if a crank is ground too wide on the #3 main jurnal, then the excessive end-play will destroy the front and rear thrust area on the #3 main bearing. Is your END-PLAY tight enough!

Thumbs down GER Converters

Challenger hasn't answered yet but I will. GER makes a very poor quality converter in my opinion. There is excessive slip so the efficiency is terrible. We switched from a GER 3000 to a Continental and picked up .75 seconds and 6mph! It seems that most people are not satisfied with them however Iv'e talked to a few people that had good luck with them, maybe 5% that Ive spoken to. A converter is one place where it doesn't pay to go cheap. Buy a quality converter like Dynamic or Turbo Action and you won't be sorry.
But don't take my word for it, go ask the racers that win what converter they run.
As far as the thrust bearing goes, when you said you checked the hole in the crank did you mean the bore saddles? I would check if it needed align boring and also check out the trans. My buddy had a turbo 350 that pushed out the converter and applied pressure to the thrust.
