Default Got a piece of a Lightning tonight...

Well in no way did I win but neither did he. It was a 93 with full exhuast, Jacob's ignition, cold air, pulleys, manual torque convertor lock up and factory 4.10's. We ran twice from a 20 punch and twice from a 40 punch...and everytime it was dead freakin even like this...

-------------->dakota
-------------->Lightning

We were even next to each other though 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. I was very proud of my truck. He claimed to run mid 14's to I left happy and we agreed it was a tie...man and I wanted a Lightning on my kill list too

No they were an NA 351 Windsor with GT-40 heads and a GT-40 upper and lower intake. Underated at 245hp, which easily known by thier mph in the 1/4. Stock they run mid to low 15's.

The 245 Hp thingie brings up a question. at the Rear wheel most 5.9/autos and 5.2 stick put down around 200hp.. Chevy Rates their new 5.3 at 285 hp YET it does the 1/4 mile at almost the exact time/speed at a ram Truck (with either engine/Tranny combo previously mentioned)..NOW IF a 385/245 Hp motor is pushing a similarly sized/weight truck through the 1/4 mile in the same time./speed as a 200hp motor..are the 245/285hp motors really putting out 245/285hp??

I have seen stock 93-95 Lightnings run around 90mph in the 1/4.
They also weigh 4800lbs. The stock 351W's had 210hp and I recently found out that the LIghtning 351's had GT40 heads, upper and lower intake, slightly different cam grind, and more free flowing exhuast manifolds. Not to mention 4.10 gears.

Wink

Send all those ferd lightnin's up my way I'll take their cash and send them home with their tail between their legs. My old '60 D100 looks just like a restored original, right down to the painted rims and hubcaps. It'll run 12.20 with low 1.6's for 60fts. I wish I had a picture of the look on the faces of the people I've beat with that old truck.
I beat a ZR1 Corvette one time and the guy just shook his fist at me and left, wouldn't even ask what I had under the hood.

Default lightning

Hey r/t eater, was it red? I have raced a red one a kennedale. We were at the movies and he was bragging about how he had a fast lightning. So I thought hey he problably has a new one. I challenged him to a race. Turns out it was a slow 93 model. But he had lots of work done. I proceeded to stomp the ---- out of his truck. 6 car lengths at least. He was like WTF!! is in that thing. Computer and exhaust. I see him two days later driving a new r/t.

Biggrin

Dustbuster; My truck only weighs 3550, the motor is a 9.2-1 440 with a 509 MP cam M1 single plane 850 holley, 1-3/4 headers, 10" Turbo-action converter, 4.56 suregrip, with a little of my own head work thrown in. The suspension is the stock 41 year old springs, axles, with a homemade pinion snubber.
It really does look like a old restored pickup, 2-tone Dodge truck red and Sanddune white. I'm still looking for more power though, I'm in the process of building a 730 hp pump-gas 528 Hemi to sneak under the hood.

oh ok 3550 is like a stripped clean E body (i thought it would have been heavier!)

man do you got enough power to pull the front wheels yet? if not i gurantee it when you get that hemi under there!! that i'd pay dollar to see, a trunk pull a power stand through a intersection and waste some ricer!!
