Default Roller Rockers. To use Or Not to use?

Hey im thinking about putting roller rockers in the 360. How often do you suggest me adjusting the valves? I drive this car just about every other day to the local crusies so say at most 60 miles a week and race it on the weekend. Also how much can i expect to pick up. There is a guy out at quaker that has a 72 dart with the same motor and all he did is put roller rockers on it and he is running 11 80's. Im just hopeing 12'0s that way people will be chasing me down in the pro class at 42.

With a hydraulic cam, you should be able to set them and forget about them. With a solid cam you may have to experiment to find the correct valve lash, but once it's set it should be OK for a year before you need to re-check it (unless there is some unusual wear going on?)

When going to the 1.6:1 ratio rockers on a pre-magnum? small block, make sure the pushrods don't hit the pushrod holes in the heads. This may be a bigger problem with cams with over 0.500" lift (because of the mis-aligned lifter angle and closer rocker arm pivot point.)

the cam is the stock one in the crate motor. it is 501/513 lift roller. If I get the rockers i will go with the ones from Hughes. They are the 1.6 ratio. So with these I should be able to set them once and not worry about them for a while? I know some people that have some chevys and they say they have to adjust them everyweek.

I have the Crane Gold roller rockers on my motor. They "say" that there is a 15 to 20 hp increase but I can not say if it is true. I would have bought the Hughes ones but they did not offer them at the time. There is some increase in horses over the pedastal mounted type of rockers of the older SB motors because these are true roller rockers as opposed to just roller tip.

i thought you couldn't use rolller rockers on a magnum engine becase they used hyrdalic lifters that were fed from the top of the pushrod? i maybe wrong but this sticks in my mind....

The rockers arent a regular shaft mount rocker. They are on a pedestol. Hughes and Mopar are the only 2 places I have seen that make them. Dont know Mopars price but i think im going to go with Hughes. They are 270 for the set. I thought about going to the next step up in cam. But they want 499 for a roller cam. I think if I go with the roller rockers that it will bump my lift up higher than what i would get going to the next size up in cam. Im just looking to get this car into the 11's or 12.0's. Dont want to spend a lot of money coz i want to get the 340 and have it in by next season. They hopefully everything will work out ok. I think it should. I wana be able to run in the quick 8 street car shoot out at 42. You can use up to 10.5 slicks and i have 10in. The fastes car i have seen yet is 11 50's. Im hoping to get that 340 into the 10.20's to 10'0's.

A lil off subject but their was a car out at 42 last week with a 340. I think it was a 71 or 72 duster. The motor was 30 over and had a nice lil set up. He was using a 150 shot of juice when he hit 2nd gear. Couldnt belive what he was running. 12.80's. they said something was wrong coz they thought the car would run 12.50's. I seen 30 over 340's in big old e-bodies run 11'70s with no bottle. You can tell the people that had this car werent all their. Just couldnt belive it. 71 Scamp next time you go to the track look for them. Its a blue duster and they run in the trophy class. Also let me know the next time your going to the track. Hoping to have my tranni back next tues. And might go down the following sat. Want to make sure before we go to Norwalk. Dont want to wast that kind of money for nothing. I guess Jeff is going up with us. I think he is staying for the weekend because of the Old's Nationals on sunday. If we have an open spot I will let you know.

Here is the link for Crane rockers I have. You also need 3/8 studs and adjusters and pushrods.

I think I am gona go with the deal from Hughes. 279 is a good price for the kit i think. Im hoping that we wont have to adjust them everyweekend. Once a month isnt bad. Thanks for the help everyone. If anyone has used these from Hughes please tell me what it did for you. Im hoping to get the car in the 12'0's or 11.90's before the end of this year.
