3 step rev limiter question
I have the MSD 3 step box for o.e.m. electronic ignitions hooked up to my M.P elec. ignition. I don't have a line lock so its awkward to try and hold the gas pedal to the floor while letting off the brake and the shifter button at the same time and trying to cut a light, I don't dare chew gum while doing all that. Has anyone ran the launch limiter off the brake pedal or the wire to the brake pedal? I don't know how to do it and still be able to hit the brakes at the finish line without kicking in the limiter. I was told people with late model hot rods do this due to lack of room for buttons and wires on their shifter or something weird like that. Any suggestions?

Never have heard of wiring into the brake pedel. I dont know how that would work when you go and hit the brakes at the end. i would throw a line lock in so when you do a burnout you can have the pedel to the floor. I know for us if we even let off the gas a lil bit we will stop spining the tires. If your running 11's now I would put a brake in. That why you can launch the car at full throtle. I think you can wire the 3 step into the same button as the brake. Anyone else on this?

Yea you can do that with a line lock or a trans brake, I just bought heads so I can't be spending any more money right now. I would have to hit a toggle switch down the track to disarm the rev limiter, I'd probably forget. Any other suggestions?

Some stock eliminator cars will drill a hole on the left side of the brake pedal and put a switch on the brake. Stage the car with your foot on the left side and stop with it on the right.
I run my 2 step switch on my clutch pedal. The clutch has to be pushed all the way in and the line lock must be activated at the same time. This is so while going down track the 2 step does not work while pushing in the clutch. Also the 2 step deactivates once I let my foot off the clutch. There is a few way of doing it, look at a few cars at the track that run a 2/3 step and see which way you think would work the best for you. |

You the man Jerico! Thats a great idea, I could have the button switched off for street use.

East stuff man!
I run a 3-step and a MSD6AL in my Duster. I have the burn-out limiter wired to the line-loc button, and I have the starting line limiter on a pressure switch in the brake line. It is also on a toggle switch so I can shut it off. I used to have it hooked to the brake light switch, but I didn't think it was very consistent in release speed. (It varied with the pedal height)

dschumers,
How did you hit your brakes at the finish line when it was wired to the brake light switch?

I turn off the toggle switch after I leave the starting line. If I forget, I get a big "BANG" out the pipe at the finish line.

Scary but definitely the cheapest route.

Ok, I made a bracket and mounted a snap action button on the brake pedal, I'll let you know if it improves anything!
