Default 380 hp V8 Magnum 360 crate engine

I own a 1999 5.2 Durango. Would there be any problems that you guys would know about if I swapped my stock 318. For this 380 horsepower 360.

There are no problems if you have the $$$$. It would cost a lot of money, there are computer issues, emissions, etc.

The cam in that motor's gunna suck with the computer. Its only got a 110 lobe seperation, its gunna lope like a MF, if it'll idle at all. Plus having tried an M1 on my motor, im not a big fan. The stock intake's actually a horrible design, but the M1 leaves throttle response rather "mushy". What's the 380 run($)? I forgot. If I were you, Id do exactly what I did and go to your Dodge dealer and buy a 360 shortblock, change the cam( I used a Hughes Engines grind, but many others are out there), and have your stock heads ported, theyre the same on the 5.2s and 5.9s.

Default Go with a blower

If you want big power, install a blower, even if the 380 crate engine would fit, driveability would be questionable.

Default Crate motors in new vehicles

Last I knew the crate motors were about $3500-3700 for the 380/360 They are more the muscle car/drag racing crowd that is not "computer controlled" If you look in the ad they list a 750 CFM carburator and a host of other things needed to obtain the 380 horse. A high stall convertor and 4:10 gear ratio also is helpful because of the poor off idle torque of the combination. The cam is definitly not computer friendly.
Take the advise of Blkbird and CanDak

You might look on the Dakota Mailing List site. There are several posts in July regarding the 360 swap that might be useful.

I have a 98 5.2 Dak that I have been considering for a 360 swap.

Default 300 HP Crate

Have you considered the 300 HP version? I think the cam is a stock Magnum or close to it. It would probably work better with the ECM and all the emissions equipment. You could put your "barrel" intake on and get the 360 computer or the MP piece.

To me that sounds like a hard way of doing it. I believe the best way to get the performance you are wanting is to modify your 5.2.

For 4000 dollars your going to spend on a crate motor, mod your 5.2. with a SC, add the new RT heads ported heads and hughes cam and the normal bolt on's and you will have one hot truck.
