I have a 70RR with 10 1/2" drums up front, and 11" in rear. The front's won't stop dragging. So far I have replaced all 4 wheel cylinders, all 4 sets of shoes, master cylinder, both front flex hoses and turned all four drums. The front's are the only one's that drag and it's both wheels. When you first take the car out and use the brakes everything is fine. After awhile regardless of speed pressure will build up and the brake pedal will become hard as a rock with no free play in the pedal. When that happens the front's are dragging. If you stop and let it sit the drums will release(several hours). I thought my wheel cylinders were binding and I honed all 4 of them. Then I thought the springs were weak, those I now have new hardware. I think the master isn't releasing the pressure fast enough, and it's building up till it causes the shoes to stay out. I've tried adjusting the pedal height and it is currently almost even with the gas pedal at rest and it still drags. What are your thoughts on this. Do you think the rebuilt master is also bad. What should my pedal height be for a 70 b body.

P.S. the car manual brakes.

Check your Proportioning valve and then remove all lines and connections and have them blown out or replace every steel line and the proportioning valve.

More than likely you have some junk in the proportioning valve blocking it up or in the front line from the master cylinder to the Porportioning valve.

What should be the height of my brake pedal. Could someone with a 70 B body with manual brakes measure from the floor or firewall to the brake pad... Thanks

Rob
