Default What are some of the signs the power valve has gone bad

Car was running super rich at idle had to turn the idle mixture screws out to half a turn from lightly bottomed, also car now has a slight hesitation when I nail the throttle.Has a hard time getting past 4,000 other itmes it gets right up to 6200.

The only experience I have with a blown powervalve was on a race car (Chevy 350 ).

The blown valve was causing way too much fuel to get in so starting the car was almost impossible and flames would shoot out of the exhaust. Once started, the car drove fine.

blown power valves come from a backfire through the carb. if it did replace the valve,if it didnt, jetting must be way rich.

I thought I had a bad one. Power valves operate on vacuum so problems can be spuratic. Your car will run like crap if the valve is bad, their cheap and easy to install so keep a couple around for tuning! good luck. <>< ps, if you can't get it solved theres a guy in Thomaston called Mr Carburetor, he's supposed to be a good tuner, let me know and I'll get you his #.

I've had bad ones do 2 different things. 1 made the car run so rich it was poorin fuel out the exhaust. The other time it was almost like a miss, mainly just uneven rpm at cruising. If I have a prob witht he carb I can't solve I always change the power valve.
