Question "How old am I" asked the 727.

So I have ditched the idea of using a 4sp in my 5th Ave, and bought a "rebuildable core" 727 to go behind my 400hp 360. I am going to dive in and rebuild it myself. There are two different kits depending on the year. Sooooooo, my question is.........how do I find out what year 727 i have?
Thanks for any help you can throw my way.

There's a code under the neutral starter switch. It will be 2 letters, followed by 7 digits space 4 digits space 4 digits. The 7 digits will tell you the exact year and some additional info, such as intended application. The catch, you need scrounge through a few chiltons auto trans. manuals to match the number. I have the manual for 74 - 78. If you post the number, I will tell you if you have a match in that book. If not, I don't have any others, sorry.

A 727's year of manufacture can be found inside the trans on the valve body. For further identification, the seriel number is stamped on the pan rail by the neutral safety switch. My '69 parts catalog explains how the code breaks down but you'd need a calender date correlation table to translate the date code.
