quick help-thrust plate torque?
Can anyone tell me what to torque the bolts on the thrust plate on a 340 to?
I can't seem to find this info anywhere. Maybe its not critical? And if you happen to know, how about rocker arm shafts? THanks, Keith |

Dont know about the thrust plate, but Larry Shepard says 30 ft/lbs for the rocker shafts. I tried 30ft/lbs and broke a rocker shaft bolt. I would not go more than 20 ft/lbs on the rocker shafts.

I would think you could go to 20 ft lbs on a 5/16" bolt. Whatever you do, I recommend using blue loctite. I have had these plates come loose before. The new factory engines come with loctite from what I have seen.

torque
Page 368 in the Mopar "A" engines book claims 210 in-lbs (17.5 ft-lbs) for the camshaft thrust plate bolts and 15 ft-lbs for the rocker shaft bolts using stock parts. Over tightening the stock rocker shaft bolts might distort the roundness of the shaft.
