small block visual
hey guys
I have a 71 340 block I am wondering b4 I send it in to have it checked for cracks where should I consentrate on a visual inspection it is a bare block with the main caps I have no other info on it other than my dad had it since the late 70s early 80s if it checks out I want to do a stroker before I send it in I want to check it out first where should I look Thanx |

ive seen them crack several places, obviously the cyl. wall, around the freeze plugs, around the main bolts, and in the lifter valley, ive seen a 340 block with a big roller cam bust the valley so bad the lifters rocked in their bores.

the block has been sitting since the late 70's early 80's I have no idea on why my dad got it its sat for so long that it needs a good look expecially If I do a stroker thanx |

LOOK!
Diffenitely look in the lifter area for problems thats the worst spot. Mancini has those new 4" cast cranks cheap, to make a stroker a 340 limit is in the main web area 600-650 hp will do the block in so be careful. I've heard of some people going over and it living but thats like playing with fire.
