1407 elderbrock carb questions
just tried a 1407 750 cfm carb used on my 440
bot from guy at track with jet kit rods looks hardly used but may of sat for a while i opened it up put rods and jets in it that may work on my 69 440 with 474 cam 9.7 comp. i did have a stock avs on it, tried to fire it up acted like it was not getting enough fuel, i left choke open, it tried to start but never did took it back off, turned carb over and lots of fuel poured out. put stock avs back on, fired right up. Whats wrong with the 1407? also will the linkage kit thy sell fit my 69 c body????? i put the throdle rod off my avs on the 1407 but hit the rod for the choke when floored . do i need to rebuild the 1407. is something bad? |

lotsa stuff
1) did you pump the throttle and check for fuel squirting out?
2) did you check for an overly rich or lean condition? 3) check the idle mix screws at the bottom front of the carb. Turn 'em in SOFTLY and back them out 1-1/2 turns to get a starting point. 4) did the throttle plates move with the throttle? There's lotsa stuff to look at. I have no idea what you tried. can you give us a little more info? |

Two things you should check. Take the cover on the top(bowls), and thouroughly clean, especially the needle and seat assy. Mine stuck open after sitting only 4 months, but at that time I had a rusty gas tank. Second, be sure not to run more than 6psi to the carb, 4.5 to 5 would be much safer, they just can't take the additional pressure and you'll have fuel all over! Post again if problems persist. <><

The linkage should not be a problem, just use the Edelbrock adapter. I have a 1406 on my 65 Fury and it works perfectly.

AS I RECALL IT WAS 15/16,MEASURED FROM THE TOP OF THE VERY END OF THE FLOAT, WITH THE GASKET ON.ALSO LOOK AT YOUR FLOATS AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE STRAIGHT & NOT HITTING THE SIDES OF THE FLOAT CHAMBER....LOOKS LIKE THE C..BODIES ARE GETTING MORE POPULAR.I HAVE A 63 NEW YORKER.HOPE THIS HELPS.
