Master Disconnect Switch Wiring
I know this has probably been answered before but I have to ask again.
I know that it goes in line between the battery and the starter but my question is: What about the field wire on the alternator. For the engine to be shut down by the switch, the alternator must also stop charging. Therefore I have to run a wire from the alternator through the switch......right? Is is OK to have it on the same post as the line to the starter. I realize that the relay activates the starter so it wouldn't make the starter operate by having the wires hooked together. I have a two post switch. The funniest thing is that Moroso sells it for $50 to $ 100. I bought mine at a tractor parts store. $15.00 It has the same rating...... what gives.....it's the same switch!! Can someone tell me if I'm on the right track?????? |

You need the Cole Hersee four pole switch to run the field wires through. That seems to be the best solution. I think there is a company called Westfleet that has the switches at a good price. I had a number for them, but can't find it right now.

Don't change the field wiring. Run your Batt wire from the alternator direct to the battery. Then run another wire from the car side of the disconnect switch to the wire that was on the alternator.
