tire clearance?
I found some 31/13.5 M/T slicks, by my figuring, I'll have 1/4-3/8" clearance between the sidewall and the inner box lip on my truck. Does anyone know if this will work ? Or am I cutting it to close. I have to let the guy know tonite if I will take the slicks.

The clearance you end up with depends on wheel backspacing and width. I assume that 13.5 is the tread width, the sidewalls are wider than the tread (section width) so you are probably cutting it too close. It's a pretty tall tire, what are you running for a rear end ratio?

With the 29.5/11.5 slick and rim on the truck I have 1-1/4- 1-3/8" clearance between the slick sidewall and the inner lip of the pickup box. I'm running a 4.56 gear, when I first started running the 29.5/11.5 I was running 1/2 second slower. Now that I'm running that much quicker, I'm hitting the traps at 6300-6400rpm. I'm running a 509 hydralic cam and its nosing over before the lites. I'd like a taller tire to kill the gear a bit. I want to keep the gear because the new motor when it's done should love it.

If you put on a 2" wider tire you'll lose about an inch of clearance on the inside leaving you with 1/4 to 3/8 clearance right? It sounds too close for comfort. Call me a chicken but it would sure suck to cut a sidewall @ 120 mph
