What's the best way to torque your balancer with the engine installed ..... Trying to get 135 Ft Lbs of torque and having a tough time... It's a 440 with 4Speed....

Block the flywheel. I cheat and use a piston stop screwed in through the spark plug hole.

Also you could lower the piston (remove rocker gear so vlaves are closed) and put a bunch of rope in the cylinder, then try bringing cylinder to TDC (if you have plenty of roap in the chamber you won't be able to turn the engine any further, so torque the bolt. Then turn the engine counter clockwise to lower the piston and remove the rope.

Remove one of your shifter linkage rods so you can put the trans into two gears at the same time. That will keep the engine from turning, then torque away!

Wouldn't putting it in 4th gear and having someone stand on the brake work?

Nope.... Putting it in gear and standing on the brake is not enough to hold car.... That's what I've been doing......

I didn't have any decent rope so I used an old spark plug wire that was burnt from the cheapo Hedman headers and cut the plugs off the end of it to stop the piston. It worked fine until the bolt started chewing into the washer and the balancer was still 1/8 inch off, now I need to get a new bolt and washer. Was afraid of using a screwdriver on the flywheel in case the alum. tranny case cracked.....
