Hello boys!
I write them from Argentina, I have a Dodge GTX (yes DODGE) '70, 318, 4-speed manual.
I want to lower the read-end and put a 5- speed manual.
¿Did somebody put a 5-spedd with a small block?
Who does transmission recommend me?

You must have hit the lottery. A 5 speed or 6 speed will run over $3000 just for the unit, and finding the right shop to put it in???
In Argentina??? Unless Mopar actually produced factory 5 speeds in south America that we yanks don't know about(how kewl would that be?..who wants to go into import/export with me??)

To lower the rear end, try putting a block under the spring perch/ on top of the spring. The thickness of the block will be how much you lower the rear of the car. Cut the block to match the width & lenth of the perch with a hole drilled the same size as the pin in the spring. The you just need longer "U" bolts to hold it together.
As far as the tranny. What kind of trans. are you looking at?
If it's a newer 5 speed that is found in trucks;
It will bolt up but, the linkage on your car won't work. You'll need to make up your own thing to get it to work. The tranny is hydraulic. You'll need the slave unit from the truck too.
Also it's a toploader type. So you may have to cut up the tunnel that the tranny runs through .
The 5 or 6 speed mtrv8n is talking about is from Richmond.

all thats gonna do is raise the car relative to the axle and ground not lower the car..isnt it? THe only real way (that I can see) is drill some new holes in the front spring mounting bracket that will move it UP and try a similar operation with the rear spring mounting point. I do know a softer stock spring will lower the car. But I dont knwo what that will do the ogevity of the spring??

Max putting a block under the axle but above the spring will lower the rear of the car. This raises the axle into the body but also puts the spring closer to the ground.

By raising the axle this raises the center of the wheel into the wheel well of the car. Raising the bottom of the tire towards the car thus lowering the car to the ground.

If you have a spring that is already close to the ground I would not do this.

The axle is above the spring on cars. The axle is the same distance from the ground, obviously, but the spring is now lower. Since the spring holds the car up, it will follow it down.

Forgive my english, I express me wrong, I referred to change the read axle ratio.
My car has a read-end Dana44 with a relationship 2,87:1 and the transmission are an A-230/ 4 with 1st 3.09: 1 2nd 2.10: 1 3rd 1.45: 1 4th 1: 1.
I want to change the relationship for 3.54 or 3: 73 (in order to run) and put a 5 speeds (for use in freeways).
Will the 5 speed that comes V6 3.9 with the Dakota Sport serve me?

Is't strong?
Who do you advise me?

oh and richmond makes a 6 speed conversion with bell housing and all the other stuff you need

I seriously doubt that that 5 speed is up to the task of hard driving. A t-5 might live for a while behind a 318, but it would again depend on your driving style. Best bet would probably be a 5 speed from www.richmondgear.com or perhaps a bolt up overdrive, like the one from www.gearvendor.com. Not sure if gearvendor makes a unit to fit your transmission, but it's possible. The RG 5 speed has a 1:1 5th gear, so you keep your existing highway relationship (ratio). 1st gear in this tranny is extremely low, which gives you the same benefit.

This might be your best option. It's expensive on the surface, but with any other 5 speed conversion you would also have to factor in the cost of new rear gears.

I'm not familiar with an A-230, sorry.

I think most of us dont realize your 70 GTX is an A-body(note the dana 44 not 60).really cool looking too.There are many versions of the dana 44,to go to deeper gears youll need a new carrier too but its all available.The US gear overdrive unit is the best way to add more gears,its a fairly simple install,youll have 8 forward gears,its a 20% overdrive/underdrive....PRO..
