Power streering problems?
We have a 1967 Baracuda with the "Quick" ratio steering box in it. The problem is that the steering goes from firm to hard to very loose. Tell me that this isn't normal.... please. If something is screwed up I need to fix it. What is it?. Thanks Toddd.

Check the valve assembly
On the top of your power steering box (assuming it is power steering) there is a small valve assembly that the hoses attach to.
When one of the valves stick your steering may be hard or pull to one side, or just act funny in general. Here is the trick; loosen the two bolts that hold the valve assembly on. Take a dead blow hammer and then wack the valve assembly good. Thighten it back down and check the steering again. Better? If it got better but still isn't quite right try it again. You can try this with the front wheels off the ground to better judge a pulling from left or right problem. |
