Default How well have your Original Equipment tires lasted?

I just replaced the OEM tires on my 2000 Grand Caravan, they are Goodyear Conquests, and they had 17,000 miles on them. They would still pass inspection, but were less then an 8th of an inch away from exposing the wear bars. They had begun to squeal constantly going around corners, and my minivan is driven on the curvy 2 lane to my house, with all 3 of my kids with me usually, so I'm not going to take any chances. The previous set of OEM tires I had were the Michelins on my 96 Breeze, and had the same quality and consistency as a cheap pair of hard plastic sandals. They were very prone to hydroplaning, and changing the tires on my Breeze at 9000 miles, were one of the best improvements I ever made to that car. The OEM Michelins on my Breeze also ended up having broken belts in them, right before I took them off. Two different sets of OEM tires, two different endings. Is this typical , or on the cars that still had OEM tires did you change them sooner or later, and for what reason. Anyway, I'm going to post a poll, to see how long OEM tires have lasted generally for folks, and then if you wish to make a comment, telling what the tires were, how well the handled or lasted, and what you replaced them with, please do so, thanks!

heres something you may or may not know. If you have a discount tire near your house you can go there and for a small fee they will rotate and balance your tires as if you purchased the tires at discount tire. www.tire.com I do not work or have any thing to do with this company, this is just info. Tire rotation is tire life!

89 Plymouth Grand Voyager... over 30,000 miles
87 Dodge D-150... approxamately 25,000 miles
00 Plymouth Neon... 10,000 miles & still look brand new
Voyager & Neon both had Goodyears, truck had Michelins
Daughters 01 Saturn... had to replace 3 tires in less than 20,000 miles... tread separation problems... Firestones
I rotate my tires religeously every other oil change (6,000 miles).
I have seen original equipment tires go as far as 60,000 miles and I have seen them go less than 10,000 miles. Its all in how you treat them.

Agreed, definetly on the tire rotation. I kept the tires rotated on my minivan, it most likely helped, but I think my main problem with tire wear is due to the previously mentioned curves and also, the potholes and road flaws that are a every day part of driving here. If you don't rotate your tires, there is just no way you'll get your full use out of them.

22k out of my Goodyear Eagle LS on my original 15x8 rims. The back right one seemed to wear extremely fast

I have put about 12k on my Eagle RS/A's and the guy that had them before put about 10k on them.. I should get another 20k out of them, seeing as how Goodyear rotates them for free every 5k miles.

The 1995 van at work was special ordered with Bridgestone LT235/70R16 10ply tires. We replaced them at 72000 ( Seventy-two THOUSAND) miles, changed the second set at 156,000 (one hundred fifty six THOUSAND) miles. The third set is now one the van and it has 161,000 miles on it. The van was used mostly on long, interstate run, some local miles.

These tires really suck in the rain, but on dry pavement they're good. It also helps to have rear ABS at least.

If you live in a dry climate, you might want to look into a set of these. They cost us about $700.00 per set of four.

We didn't realize how good we were doing with tires until we pulled the service records on the van while putting it up for sale. I under stand these numbers were verified by the tire dealer.

I've read about some fleet vehicles getting over 100,000 on a set of michelins, but I guess we can't complain getting 72000 on one set and 84000 on the second set. I wish I could do that on my personal vehicles.

4.7 Dakota Quad...
At 21,000 miles my right rear tire is almost treadless in the middle. Not sure why, unless its because I'm kind of heavy footed and it has the limited slip rear. Left one is hooking while the right is spinning some?

Dunno yet. I'm just under 30,000 miles on my Amy's original tires, and I do believe that I'll be getting a new set not long after 30,000. They're Goodyears and are the squat 15" tires that come with the ES or LS version of the 2000 Neon. I'm tempted to get a new set of these since I hardly ever lost traction.

Well... I hydroplained not long ago, but the road was newly wet, bumpy as all get out (but still fairly smooth) and I was going too quick and had to stop quicker. No antilock brakes makes that fun.

Oh well, let's see what they'll do....

When I rotate tires, I put new on the front, the fronts on the rear, and the rears in the trash. Every set of OEMs I've had I've burnt to the ground. It's just more fun that way.

I had the Goodyear Invictas on my 97 2WD V6, they started to wear unevenly in front probably due to ball joint problems. I replaced them six months ago at 75,000 kilometres...was real broke at the time so they're just non-descript mopars.

Hey those "non descript mopar" tires aren't bad. They are not hitech racing tires but they are good mom and pop tires. For those of you in the "states" these are autopar tires that the dealers in Canada have been selling for years.

Yeah, thanks speedwobble. They aren't bad at all, maybe they don't look quite as sharp as some of the fat flashy ones I've seen, but they were good value for the money.

Default Too long

About 18,000 miles, I was trying to wear mine out (Michelin LTX'S 245/75/16's) so I could put some REAL tires on the truck (Cooper Discoverer A/T's 265/75/16's) that look a lot better and actually have some traction. Now I can launch a boat without leaving 2 black strips all the way up the launch!!!
