Default Big Block Shootout

Just wanted to let everybody know that Dick Landy won the Popular Hot Rodding Big Block Shootout. It hasn't been published yet and I couldn't wait so I called DLI and they told me that they won, producing around 650hp from a pump gas 440!

This shootout was the follow up to the small block shootout that the Mopar 360 won. The chevy boys were pretty sore after they lost that one so Gordon Jennings, shop chief of Paul Pfaff Racing Engines said " If you ever do a Big Block Shootout, give us a call and we'll kick thier asses". Needless to say they lost again, this time with a bigger engine.

Congratulations to DLI for defending the faith and upholding the honor of the mighty 440!

In the July issue of Popular Hot Rodding, they go into a little detail about the combo, but they seem to have made some mistakes in the article as I can find no mention of pistons or compression ratio. Perhaps that will be in the upcoming issue when they compare all three on Desktop Dyno before they go to the real world Dyno in the final segment.
Here's what they have:

1977 block, main studs
Indy aluminum heads, I 2.17, E 1.81---they didn't specify which heads??

Erson roller cam PNr-276-1, I .675/ 276@.050, E .645/ 286@.050
they didn't give lobe separation

Looks like a Demon 950 on the Indy intake, again they didn't specify.

Anyway, las but not least it looks like from the pictures that they run an MSD billet Distributor, Fluidampr, MSDwires, etc...

Sorry for the sketchy details, but I'm sure they will have to clear this up in next month's issue, the Chevy and Ford were in the August and September issues, so the next is October.

Exclamation Update

I just called DLI again and they gave me some good news!
Horsepower was actually at 680!
They said the pistons were wiseco shelf items based on the Six Pack replacement with a compression height of 2.055.
The compression ratio worked out to be just under 11:1.
They were a little busy since I wasn't purchasing anything, HE,HE,
but the were kind enough to give me the scoop!

I can't wait for the next issue!
