If 30 is all you have ever cut , you wont need to cut the intake..

Default I beg to differ......

I had my heads shaved .020" and with a steel shim head gasket I could BARELY bolt down the Edelbrock intake. I almost had to stand on the intake to get the holes to line up enough to put the bolts in. I have a problem with blowby around the edges of the valley pan so I will have to pull the intake off. I am going to take it to the shop and have it planed down to match the heads.

Default Milled Heads

I've had the same problem on the small block heads. I had some 360 heads milled about .030" and the intake bolts wouldn't go in. I think the machine shops just get lazy and don't want to do another setup to mill the intake faces.

If you are going to shave the heads you would be better to shave the intake side of the head. If you ever decide to change manifolds you would have to shave the new one also. If you shave the intake side of the head any standard intake still works.

Cool

O.K., so what's the formula.

How much comes off the intake side in relation to how much comes off the bottom?

For every .010 thousandths milled off your heads you will have to take .0123 off the intake face...

I just took .080 thousandths off my heads and I could only get .080 off the intake side because it was getting a little thin.... So I had to mill the intake manifold as well.... Oh well....
I used an Edelbrock RPM Performer as I would not mill my "Six Pack" setup.... We'll see how it runs this weekend at the drag strip...

Good Luck...

Default .080" Milling?

That's a bunch. Let us know if you develop any problems with blown head gaskets, etc. I always thought that .060" was the upper range. I guess you must have closed chamber heads now.
